ROCCO MATTEO PRODUCTION DESIGNER

BIO

 

ROCCO MATTEO brings a background in Architecture, Industrial Design and Set Design to create

complete environments for film and television.

 

Working closley with Directors, Writers and Producers - along with other key personnel- Matteo develops a project's

visual style from intial concept through to the final execution.

 

Matteo's design work was essential in establishing the visual style of numerous Television projects that have become

successful franchises for major networks worldwide such as  LA FEMME NIKITA  for Warner Bros and USA Network,

SAMANTHA: AMERICAN GIRL  produced by Revolution Studios for Warner Bros,  KOJAK  for NBC/Universal,

PLAYMAKERS  for ESPN and Touchstone,    MUTANT X  produced by Tribune for USA Network

and  THE CHEETAH GIRLS  for Disney.

 

Matteo has piloted projects for FOX, WARNER BROTHERS, USA NETWORK, DISNEY CHANNEL, CHUM/CITY

and NICKELODEON among others. The project    ACROSS THE RIVER TO MOTOR CITY 

was nominated for a Gemini Award and won a DGC award, both for Best Production Design, one of numerous

individual and team awards Matteo has been named in.

 

Also, Matteo has designed independant Feature Films for notable Directors such as    INTERSTATE 60   for Bob Gale,

GANG IN BLUE  for Melvin and Mario Van Peebles, and  BLOOD  for Jerry Ciccoritti. With this Director he also

designed the bio-pic  SHANIA - A LIFE IN EIGHT ALBUMS   and the mini-series   LIVES OF THE SAINTS,

a Canadian-Italian co-production based on the novels of Nino Ricci, that has aired internationally.

 

In addition to his work as Production Designer, Matteo has served as an Art Director on many American studio projects.

He has served in this capacity for Feature Films such as    TRAITOR,  THE SENTINEL,  THE OCCUPANTS, 

INDIAN SUMMER, THE STUPIDS,  REBOUND,   GOTTI,  and as Set Designer on   THE SCARLET LETTER.

 

Matteo has a degree in Architecture from the University of Toronto and is fluent in Italian. He holds both Canadian

and European passports and has worked throughout Canada, the United States and Italy.

His partner and spouse, Joyce Gunhouse, is a leading Canadian Fashion Designer for the influential

label,   COMRAGSThey live in Toronto with their two children.

 

Currently, Rocco is designing the mini-series  THE KENNEDY'S  for the History Channel.
